Elena Yeung and the Clinch Mountain Backstep

Elena Yeung and the Kootenay Special at the Marysville Pub, Sunday, April 29th, 4pm

Fresh from an engagement at the Calgary Folk Club Elena Yeung and the Kootenay Special (Karl Sommerfeldt – fiddle; Steve Jones – bass and Keith Larsen – guitar, mandolin and dobro) stepped their way through a fine selection of Blue Grass tunes and songs. Music is not a regular feature of this venue but when it does occur the performers are always exceptional. On this particular Sunday it was treat to hear Elena’s original songs and the fine musicians in her bad. And, of course, my favourite tune of the evening was Karl and Elena`s duet on the “Clich Mountain Backstep“. It was a step away from the BlueGrass tradition, back one would even say to the old time traditions of Appalachia.
