Sonatina Sunday 2012

Sonatina Sunday at the Knox Presbyterian Church, Cranbrook, Sunday June 3, 2012 2pm.

This is the 7th annual Sonatina Sunday sponsored by the East Kootenay Music Teachers Association (EKMTA). This is an opportunity for music students in the area to show the results of all the hard work over the year. As usual there was preponderance of piano students playing  Mozart, Diabelli, Haydn, and Beethoven but the program was well balanced with solo violin, cello and vocal selections. Older students were well represented with stunning performances by Jael Wong Ferriger, Marion Courmont and Jasmine Dube. Jael’s performance was striking for a number of reasons. Jael, who is a tall slim Asian lady, sang Solveig’s Song from Peer Gynt by the Norwegian Edvard Grieg. Jael chose to sing the piece in German with some very sensitive accompaniment by Tim Plait on piano. Marion and Jasmin sang The Flower Duet from Delibes opera Lakme. As always this duet was a joy to hear.

The EKMTA would like to thank their corporate sponsors – Investors Group, Higher Path, Rotary, M&M, The Real Canadian Superstore and Ric’s Restaurant at the Prestige Inn. They would also like to thank the accompanists Tim Plait and Gilles Hainault for their active support of the students.
